PIE Curriculum

An essential element of PIE is the integrated curriculum approach to achievement of the District learning standards. This approach provides opportunities for students to build upon their strengths, interests, and experiences and assists them in making connections between and among the concepts and skills  learned. It is within this framework that PIE teachers endeavor to address the diverse needs and abilities of their students, as well as establish a learning environment that promotes inquiry, creativity, industriousness and responsibility.

The basic components of the PIE program are:
  1. Parental Involvement
  2. Multi-Age Classroom
  3. Integrated Curriculum
Learning in the PIE classroom is literature-based, project-oriented, and thematically organized. Examples of curriculum may include: The Daily 5- The Daily CAFE, Responsive Classroom, and Marilyn Burns Math Solutions. Multiple forms of assessment are used to evaluate student progress.
  • "Differentiated" refers to instruction that is adapted to the individual needs of the learners, rather than expecting learners to adapt themselves to the instruction.
  • "Child-focused" refers to learning that emphasizes the role of children's needs, choices, and responsibilities.
